Do I need an insurance broker?
An insurance broker searches the market on your behalf to find policies that match your needs and circumstances. They can be particularly valuable for complex risks, business insurance, or if you have medical conditions that make it harder to get standard cover.
How much does an insurance broker cost?
Many insurance brokers do not charge a separate fee — they earn commission from the insurer when you take out a policy. Some charge a broker fee (typically £25–£100) on top of the premium. The fee structure must be disclosed before you commit.
Is insurance advice regulated?
Yes. Insurance mediation (advising on and arranging insurance) is regulated by the FCA. All insurance brokers must be FCA-authorised, giving you access to the Financial Ombudsman Service and FSCS protection if the broker fails.
What is the difference between an insurance broker and an insurance company?
