Using the Directory
How does approval.co.uk work?
We're a free, independent directory of FCA-authorised financial advisers. Search by postcode, compare advisers, and request introductions at no cost.
Is approval.co.uk free to use?
Yes, completely free. We don't charge consumers. Our service is funded by advertising.
How do I search for an adviser?
Enter your postcode on the homepage or the Find an Adviser page. You can filter by specialism (pensions, mortgages, investments, etc.) and distance.
Can I compare advisers side by side?
Yes. Select multiple advisers from search results and use our Compare page to see qualifications, services, regulatory records, and reviews side by side.
How do I request an introduction to an adviser?
Click "Request Introduction" on any adviser profile. Fill in your name, email, and a brief description of what you need. The adviser will contact you directly — usually within 1–2 business days.
Adviser Verification
How do you verify advisers?
Every adviser in our directory is verified against the FCA Financial Services Register. We check their authorisation status, permissions, and any disciplinary history.
What does "FCA-authorised" mean?
It means the adviser (or the firm they work for) is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority — the UK's financial services regulator. This gives you access to the Financial Ombudsman Service and FSCS compensation scheme.
What is the difference between independent and restricted advisers?
Independent advisers can recommend products from the whole market. Restricted advisers can only recommend certain products or providers. Both types are FCA-regulated. See our guide: Independent vs Restricted Financial Advisers.
What if an adviser has regulatory actions?
We show regulatory history transparently on adviser profiles. If the FCA has taken action against an adviser or their firm, this will be visible.
